2019 Summer Day Program video
Self-Realization Fellowship regularly conducts a How-to-Live Summer Day Program in Encinitas, California, consisting of a five-day session for girls and a five-day session for boys. The Summer Day Program is for children 7 to 12 years old and teens 13 to 18 years old.
The programs have been held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily at the Encinitas Country Day School, a 20-acre campus that borders a lagoon. This provides the feeling of being quietly secluded, while being easily accessible to nearby towns.
Through participation in monastic-led Energization Exercises, meditation, satsangas, and other programs exploring Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings, youths will be able to discover the inner strength so needed in today’s world in order to make choices that lead to a deeply satisfying inner and outer life. There will also be a special pilgrimage outing to spend time at the SRF Encinitas Hermitage and meditation gardens, where Paramahansa Yogananda lived and communed with God for so many years. In addition, there will be numerous interactive activities that make use of an amphitheater, music room, technology lab, conservation hiking trail, basketball court, and soccer/track field.

How-to-Live Program for 7–12 Year Olds
Children will experience fun, interactive classes infused with Paramahansaji’s spiritual principles. A variety of activities and programs will be available, such as sports, music, arts and crafts, creative work with digital technology, hiking, and theater arts. This balanced and engaging program will give children opportunities to grow spiritually while enjoying fellowship with other SRF children.
How-to-Live Program for 13–18 Year Olds
In another part of the campus, teens will be able to participate in a How-to-Live program tailored to the unique challenges they face in today’s world. Through interactive classes and satsanga with monastics, including personal instruction in and practice of meditation, teens will be able to experience how relevant Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings can be in their lives. Also, teens may take part in designing and participating in creative projects using the amphitheater, music room, and/or technology lab. Through a variety of activities available that address the different teen age ranges, teens will have the opportunity to focus on developing confidence and leadership skills as covered in the Self-Realization Fellowship teachings. Sports and physical activities such as Hatha Yoga practice will balance and complement the classes and meditations.
Information for Parents
For parents of children and teens attending the program, there will be a Parent Day held on Tuesday of the program, which will include a meditation, satsanga, and class, at the Encinitas Temple. Parents can also choose to visit the SRF meditation gardens, and the J Street Chapel for meditation.

Important Announcement About the 2022 Summer Day Program and New Online Offerings for Children and Teens
We wanted to let you know that we will not be holding an in-person Summer Day Program for children and teens this year. Because of having to make a decision now while weighing the many considerations that have been in place according to local government health regulations, we found it was still not yet feasible for us to offer this event.
We are happy to let you know, however, that we are currently working on several new online offerings which will constitute a virtual environment and program of events for youth to enjoy this year and into the future.
Over the last year we were able to develop an online “how-to-live” class for children, thanks to the enthusiastic help of Sunday school teachers and several families. We will begin to offer these classes later this year. We are also in the process of developing an online teen group—to give SRF teens a way to discuss topics of interest to them. We will send you more details about these and other developments in coming months.
Also, our “Journey to Lake Shrine” is still available on the Youth Services section of the SRF website. This five-part video series was created by SRF’s Youth Services Department in light of our in-person youth programs not being available. Each of the five episodes in the “Journey to Lake Shrine” series is structured as a day of learning and fun, similar to a day at an in-person youth program.
We appreciate your continued support of our programs and we look forward to the many ways we will grow together in serving SRF youth in-person and online in the future.
May God and Gurus bless you and your dear ones, and may you know that They are ever protecting you with Their divine light and love.
In divine friendship,
Youth Services Department
